先日、少しSNSで話題になった”クラッチ・ファイト”。
ベイトで魚とやり取りする最中、ドラグを使わず（フルロック）クラッチを切ってラインを出す方法ですが・・・。
このファイト方法には、下記に挙げるいくつかのメリットがあると考えています。

1.フッキング時にドラグが出ず、パワーロスが無い
2.ラインを出す時は、指でドラグ力を自在に調整できる
3.強引に寄せたい時は、100％の力で巻き上げられる

1のメリットは特にジグ・テキサス系のフッキング時に有効です。
パンチング用リールの場合、あえてドラグのグリスを抜いてフルロックにして使っています。

2はカバーに巻かれた時に有効で、一時的にラインテンションをほぼ完全に抜いて走らせ、絡んだラインを解いてから再びファイトします。

3はカバー周りで、中に突っ込ませないために止める時などに有効です。

これはベイトタックルで、かつ魚のサイズに対してライン強度の余力がある場合に活きると思います。

原理的にはドラグ調整でも対応できるはずですが、現実としてベイトのドラグはスピニングのように滑り出しが精密ではありませんので・・・。

ポイントは「魚が走り出す瞬間にクラッチを切る」ことで、強いラインテンションが掛かってからでは切れなくなってしまいます。

無理やり切るとリールのギヤも痛めますので、少しロッドを戻しながら切る感覚を掴むと良いでしょう。

ちなみにこれまで、深刻なリールのトラブルにつながった経験はありません。

[The Advantages of Clutch Fighting]
The other day, “clutch fighting” became a bit of a hot topic on SNS.
This is a method of releasing the line by pushing the clutch of the casting reels instead of using the drag.
I believe that this method has several advantages as listed below.

1. No drag is released when hooking, so there is no power loss.
2. When releasing the line, the drag force can be freely adjusted with a finger.
3. When you want to pull the line hard, you can reel it in with 100% power.

1. is especially effective when hooking jigs and texas-rigs in cover.
In the case of a punching reel, I dare to pull out the drag grease and use it at full lock.

2. is effective when the line tungles up around the cover. In that case, I temporarily remove line tension almost completely and let the fish run, then untangle the line before fighting it again.

3 is effective around cover, for example, when stopping the fish to keep it from running into the cover.

This is useful when you are using casting tackle and have enough line strength for the size of the fish.

In principle, it should be possible to adjust the drag, but in reality, the drag of casting reels is not as precise as that of spinning reels.

The point is to “release the clutch at the moment the fish starts to run.” If the clutch is released after a strong line tension is applied, it will be impossible to release the clutch.
