アクスルを修理してテキサスへ走り始めた矢先、トレーラーの左リヤから煙が・・・。
何とキャリパーが固着し、掛かりっぱなしのブレーキでローターが削られて発熱したのです。
直した箇所とは別なので偶然かもしれませんが、もはやこれでは動けない。

On my way to Texas, I saw smoke from my trailer’s left-rear wheel.
The caliper got stuck and kept braking, and that broke the pad and rotor.
It wasn’t the repaired side, but anyway, I can’t hit the road with it.

万事休すかと思いましたが、そういえば修理時に取り外したハブセットが積んである！
そこでハイウェイの路肩に停め、火傷しながらもとりあえずキャリパーを外してフレームに固定。
最寄りのスタンドに飛び込んで、突貫工事でローター一式を交換しました。

At first I thought it was game over, then remembered the spare hub parts removed from repair.
Then I took the caliper off and secured it onto the frame on the roadside.
And rushed to the nearest gas station and replaced the whole rotor/hub set.

ただ作業に時間が掛かってしまったので、おそらく残された練習時間は1日ちょっと。
でも、心が折れたら終わり。
そのたった1日のために・・・
レイバンまで、あと500マイル。

But the work took too much time, and the practice time left is only about a day.
If my heart breaks, it’s over.
All for that one single day… 500miles to go until Rayburn.
