数年前、折れたエクスプライド169Hをベースに、ジャストエースのソリッドティップ(400H)を使ってフロッグロッドを再生したのですが・・・。
ティップが柔らかいのでルアーを操作しやすい上、パワーもあって非常に使いやすい！
パワーが必要な関係上、どうしてもティップが硬くなってしまいがちなフロッグロッドなので、ソリッドティップ化が向くジャンルだと感じました。
しかし問題は耐久性で、絶対折れるだろうと覚悟して試していたのですが・・・3シーズンくらい使っていますが、未だ健在なのに驚いています。
思い当たる理由は「スパイラルガイド」で、おそらくブランクがねじられないから折れにくいのではないかと。
逆に言えば通常のベイトロッドは、フッキング時にティップ～ベリー付近が強くねじられるので折れてしまいやすいのではないかと思うのです。
というわけでソリッドティップ＋スパイラルガイドの組み合わせは、意外にもフロッグロッドに向いているのではないでしょうか。

[Solid tip frog rod]
A few years ago, I rebuilt a frog rod with a H power solid blank based on a broken Expride 169H.
The soft tip makes it easy to control frogs.
I felt that a solid tip is suitable for frog rods because the tip of ordinary frog rods tends to be stiff due to the need for power.
However, the problem was its durability. I was prepared for it to break, but… I have been using it for about three seasons, and I am surprised that it is still fine.
The reason I can think of is the “spiral guide,” which probably prevents the blank from twisting, so it is hard to break.
Conversely, I think that ordinary bait casting rods are prone to breakage because the tip to belly section is strongly twisted when hooking.
Therefore, I think the combination of solid tip and spiral guide is surprisingly suitable for a frog rod.
