今年も”世界アマチュア最強決定戦”、NATIONチャンピオンシップの幕が降りました。
全米各州と世界7か国からの代表選手達による、ミシシッピ・リバーでの4日間の激闘。
その末に42歳のスーパーローカル、ニック・トリムがエリート＆クラシックの切符を掴んで見せました。

The Nation Championship — the pinnacle for amateur anglers — has come to a close this year.
Top local anglers who qualified from across the U.S. and seven countries competed on the mighty Mississippi River, and 42-year-old Nick Trim earned berths for the Elites and the Classic.

試合前夜の夕食会場で、かつてこのチャンピオンシップからエリートに駆け上がったパット・シュラッパーは演説しました。
“この大会はワーキング・クラスの大舞台である”
特別に恵まれた環境が無い一般の労働者でも、誇りを持って夢を追い続けられると語ったのです。

Pat Schlapper, who had qualified for the Elite said on the pre-tournament stage,
“This is a big stage for the working class anglers”
He emphasized that even those with everyday jobs and no special circumstances can proudly chase their dreams.

好きな事を仕事にする、というのは確かに人生の理想です。
けれども日々我慢して働いている圧倒的多数の納税者が、この社会を支えているのも事実でしょう。
そんな普通の仕事を持つ一般アングラーが、トーナメントに時間とお金を割く努力は並大抵ではありません。

Turning your passion into your profession is indeed an ideal.
But it’s also true that our society is supported by the vast majority of taxpayers who work hard at ordinary jobs.
For these everyday anglers, devoting their limited time and money to tournaments is no easy task.

それは気楽な道楽などではあり得ず、強い熱意が無ければとても続けられるものではありません。
プロとは選んだ道は違えど、”釣道”を追求する果てしない旅に決して貴賤は無いはずです。
ですからアマチュアトーナメンターとしての誇りを持って、またこの大舞台に再挑戦したいと思います。

This is not a carefree hobby — it takes unwavering passion and determination to keep going.
Even if the paths are different, there is no hierarchy in the endless pursuit of fishing.
That’s why I will give everything I’ve got on this stage — proudly, as an amateur.
