ボートの船体で最も大事なメンテナンスとも言える、ガンネルの増し締め。
緩んだまま放置すると、ネジ山がバカになってFRPが割れたりと補修が大変です。
最悪ハルとデッキが分離してしまう危険性もあり、私は毎年3回くらい締め直しています。

Tightening the gunwale screw is one of the critical maintenance tasks for boats.
If you leave them loose, the hole can strip, or the FRP can crack.
In the worst case, there is a risk of hull separation, which is why I check it 3 times/year.

大切なのは暖かい時にやる事で、冬だとゴムが伸びなくて大変です。
まずインサートラバーをマイナスドライバーで外しますが、1～2mぐらいづつ小分けにするのもコツ。
戻す時の事も考えて、右利きの私は右から左へと進めるようにしています。
(左舷後尾から始める)

I recommend doing this in the warm season, as the softened rubber makes the job easier.
First, pop out the insert rubber 3-5ft at a time using a flathead screwdriver.
If you are right-handed, working right to left can make put-buck easier.
(start with port stern)

あとネジ山がバカになっている時は、一回り太いネジを入れ直すと良いです。
どうしてもダメな時は隣に別の穴を開け直すわけですが、あまりやると穴だらけになってしまいます。
最終的に新しく開けるところが無くなると、それが船体の寿命になるのでなるべく避けたいところです。

If a hole is stripped, replace it with a thicker screw.
Drilling a new hole next to it also works, but avoid it if possible.
Running out of space for new holes means the end of the hull’s lifespan, so try to minimize extra drilling.

ラバーを戻す時はプラハンで叩くのが手っ取り早く、右利きの場合右→左へと進めるのが楽。
ラブレールが狭くて戻しにくい箇所は、マイナスドライバーを使って押し込むと上手くいきます。
サンデーアングラーなら年一回で充分でしょうが、ラフウォーター多めならこまめにチェックしましょう！

Put the rubber back using a plastic mallet, working right to left if you are right-handed.
If the rub rail is too tight, use a flathead screwdriver to help push it in.
Once a year will be enough for weekend anglers, but check it more if you often run in rough water.
